Hair Growth Product Decisions
It can really seem like the choices for which hair growth product to use can be overwhelming with all the different drugs, remedies, and solutions to choose from. The key to determining what to spend your money on is to know what it is you are trying to accomplish with the hair loss product you decide to try. If you don’t understand what causes your hair loss it is hard to make a decision on a course of action to correct the problem.
When men experience baldness they usually are suffering from a genetic condition known as Androgenic Alopecia or male pattern baldness. When this condition is present the hair follicles in the affected area will slowly shrink with each growth phase until they can no longer support hair shaft growth. This is the condition that must be treated if you plan to have any success at stopping or reversing your balding.
Hair Regrowth Product
One thing that needs to be understood at the very beginning is if you have lost all the hair on one part of your head then you won’t be able to spread some magical product on your scalp and get the hair to grow back overnight. This is not how the treatment of hair loss works. Instead, if you are trying to re-grow your lost hair you may see some relief with a few products but the best way to get hair growing in a bald area again is to have some sort of hair transplantation procedure done. Hair restoration products can do a good job of helping you keep the hair you have and they will bring back some hair growth from follicles that have lost their hair shafts but not too much.
Best Hair Growth Product
When trying to determine the best hair growth products for your hair loss condition it is important to make the distinction between keeping what hair you still have and trying to get back the hair you lost. The most successful hair growth products are based on one of two FDA approved drugs that have been shown in clinical tests to improve hair coverage in men who have hair loss. The first drug is Finasteride.
It is taken in tablet form every day and is known as a DHT blocker in the sense that it controls the amount of free DHT in the body. This hormone metabolite of testosterone is thought to be the driving force behind male pattern baldness. It has been shown that limiting the amount of this hormone can slow down hair loss and show a slight increase in hair growth.
The second hair growth product ingredient that has been approved by the US FDA is Minoxidil. This is a topical solution that does not change the levels of DHT but instead counteracts the affects from the build up of the hormone. Minoxidil is a vasodilator which means it causes the tiny blood vessels it comes in contact with to expand and provide more blood flow. It is thought that this increase in flow can continue to provide nutrients and oxygen to the hair follicles which would normally be forced to shrivel away because of the loss of the needed oxygen and nutrients. This is applied in solution form to the affected area of the scalp twice a day. It is usually applied in a 5% solution for men and a 2% solution for women.
When trying to decide what hair growth products to use you need to realize there are no silver bullets. Any product for hair growth that is successful will need to be used every day for as long as you want to keep your hair. Usually, marked hair loss will occur when the treatments are halted. So basically, you are just putting off the inevitable by using a hair growth product.
